It’s a poignant assessment. Encountering abandoned or stray animals for the first time breaks your heart.
Seeing so many dogs suffer is devastating, and we all wish to help.
But relief comes when a rescued puppy is finally safe and has a promising future with a new family. That’s what every pet owner wishes for their animal.
Here’s the touching story of a dog saved from euthanasia, thanks to a generous man. Nowadays, it’s unfortunately common for owners to abandon their pets to be euthanized due to high medical costs. This was almost the fate of Gregory, a Beagle.
Two days before his scheduled euthanasia, Joe Kirk came to his rescue.
Joe and his wife, Schenley, run a non-profit organization, Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary, based in Findlay, Ohio. They are dedicated to helping neglected animals find new homes and providing care for elderly or harder-to-adopt dogs.
Schenley shared on Facebook: «Gregory is a grateful Beagle! He KNOWS he is safe! He is heartworm positive and will be treated, but he knows he is in good hands! We will nurse him back to health and give him all the love he deserves and a wonderful future!»
A fresh start for Gregory
Once safe with the Kirks, Gregory received treatment for his heartworm.
Shortly after, he was put up for adoption and didn’t have to wait long. A family came for him, and he joined their home forever, alongside a new Beagle companion. Schenley added: «We are often asked how many dogs we have saved. The answer that always comes to mind is: we’ve saved one more. One more is safe, receiving the veterinary care and love they need, and will have a loving home forever. There’s nothing more rewarding.»
This story shows that a little kindness can transform a dog’s life and that we can always do more to help those in need.
